Plenty of drivers only find out their car has no spare wheel when they get a flat. The good news is you have options.
To save weight and space, many modern cars come with a tyre repair kit or run-flat tyres instead of a spare wheel. Here is what that means when you get a flat.
If you have a sealant kit
- It works for small punctures in the tread only, not sidewall damage or blowouts.
- It is a temporary fix to get you to safety, usually at reduced speed for a limited distance.
- The sealant must be cleaned out before a proper repair, so tell your fitter you used it.
If you have run-flat tyres
Run-flats let you keep driving a limited distance at reduced speed after a puncture. Check your handbook for the exact limits. They usually need to be replaced rather than repaired after running flat.
If you have neither
Do not drive on a flat tyre. It will damage the tyre and can damage the wheel. Get somewhere safe and call for help. On a motorway, follow our motorway flat tyre safety steps.
The easiest option: we bring the tyre
With mobile tyre fitting you do not need a spare at all. Tell us your tyre size, and we bring a matching new or part-worn tyre and fit it where you are, 24/7 across Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow. Call 085 196 9572.
